Tonight, on The Black Hack.

Tonight, on The Black Hack.

Word goes out from the Oracle of Athens. Two heroes are called forth by Poseidon to deal with the Cyclops. They are sent forth after a little earthquake demonstration of power.

The ride north and encounter soldiers on the beach from the isle of Lesbos. They are greeted as servants of Poseidon and eat one of the sheep they were given back in Athens. In the night 3 Mermen come out of the water to try and stop them. But they handily dispatch them and learn very little from the encounter.

They then run into bandits the next day stealing from a ship after killing the survivors of the wreckage.

Then onto the cave of the cyclops.

Long story short. There was wine, sheep and cheese followed by a nap. Then a pointy stick went in an eye and somebody went blind.

It was a good time and the system is very much stacked in favor of the players. But that does make for a quick story driven game.

All in all it is very much like how i have run D&D for decades. I would defiantly suggest this for people who are looking for a quick pickup game or who are just getting in to RPGs for some fast fantasy fun. Well worth the 2 bucks in my opinion.

  1. Yup. That was fun. Gorgaraclese is still confused about why Poseidon wanted to kill his own son, and why his Oracle is in Athens ... He wanders around the market scratching his head on that. His 4 Int doesn't really afford him much chance of answering those questions, so he punches an ox in the face instead.

As for Black Hack - yup... pretty clean and easy to learn system. Not a lot in the way of tactical gaming, but for story oriented games that have a strong OSR flavor, yeah, I can see it. Fun time. Thanks Jonathan!
