From time to time i like to saddle my PCs with a shitload of kids.
It's always a grand hassle and most chaotic evil PCs still have a soft spot for little Farnsworth. Soft enough to not feed them to the next NPC that comes down the pipe.
I was 2 years old when Battlestar Galactica came on the air. But this is the sort of sci fi child rearing dren i was raised on. An 8 year old boy and his frackin' mother on a scouting mission with the frellin' military.
Today we would ask "who writes this tripe?" but in the 70's if your kid didn't just come back from Vietnam he was a pansy. So, i guess they grew up quicker back then, or maybe the Gods weren't watching the die rolls.
But this brings again to mind the thought that your games need not always make sense if they make for good stories. Throw in kids. Never balk when your PCs do something stupid.
As they say in BSG. "This has all happened before. This will all happen again". Monumental bad ideas make for great stories, letting your PCs take an 8 year old into a combat zone is a great life lesson.
