Well the black box was not complete. But it did come with a second copy of X1 The Isle Of Dread. I have the books already, but it's nice to have a second set with boxes.
I might have to hit ebay for the old dice, or i might trade a copy of X1 and a whatnot for a set.
You hit a good deal - HPB out here tends to charge between $30-$50 a box for those. Hell, they want $25+ for the intro to 4th ed that came in a red box.
Prices are done locally in store. It depends on if they have someone who wants to take the time and price it out. This store John went to apparently has a guy or gal who just doesn't give a damn (or hasn't drunk the koolaid as far as gouging customers goes).
From what I understand they end to use Amazon for pricing, when they can find a seller there. But, yeah... a lot of HPB people aren't exactly experts at judging these things - especially considering that matching up the contents of a box with what it says should be in it isn't standard procedure.
Yeah, the one closer to us often overprices and I have a friend who works there. He told me that one guy does all the pricing for that department and it's his call, even if others disagree. That guy will rake people over th coals on pricing, knows what's hot in the market, etc. He will also sell on eBay on behalf of the store, making it so hot items often never even hit the shelves. shrug
Holy crap. That's amazing.

ReplyDeleteNiceness.
ReplyDeletedammit. that was the one place i wanted to go this weekend and didn't.
ReplyDeleteI need to take a trip over there.
ReplyDeleteWe're not worthy!!!
ReplyDeleteIf prices are anything like they are here, that must have set you back a pretty penny.
ReplyDeleteAlways great to find an old favorite.
ReplyDeleteSchwing! It's outta here!
ReplyDeleteI paid $4.99 per box. 2 bucks a book for The Players and DM Compainion. $1.99 for a Guild Directory and 5 bucks for X1 The isle of dread.
ReplyDeleteI also picked up 100 years of National Geographic for 10 bucks. About 40 bucks out the door all things told.
So jealous.
ReplyDeleteWow.
ReplyDeletehmm my uncle gave me (for free) his copy of White Box D&D he played back in college, but this is up there :)
